Furry Purry Formby- Full Terms & Conditions

We want every experience with Furry Purry Formby to be smooth, safe, and stress-free—for both you and your cat. These Terms & Conditions help us provide a high standard of care while ensuring fairness and clarity. By booking with us, you're agreeing to the details below.

Booking & Accepting These Terms

When you book a grooming session, you're confirming that you’ve read and agreed to these Terms & Conditions. From time to time, we may update them—and if we do, we’ll always keep you informed.

In this document:

“You” refers to the cat’s owner, guardian, or responsible adult.

“We” or “Us” refers to Furry Purry Formby.

Appointments, Deposits & Payment

To secure your booking, we ask for a £30 deposit. You will be sent a secure link to pay this and you will receive an electronic receipt.

For nail trims only, payment is required in full when you book.

Your deposit comes off your final bill, which is due on the day of your appointment.

We accept cash, bank transfer, or card payments via mobile.

Travel Charges

No travel charges are applied to Formby residents. We do charge a travel fee of 50p per mile (round trip) from our base in Formby (L37 2HR) to your address if you live outside of the Formby area. We’ll confirm this at the time of booking so there are no surprises.

Changing or Cancelling Appointments

We know life happens! If you need to cancel or move your appointment:

Let us know at least 48 hours in advance, and we’ll either refund or move your deposit to a new date.

If it’s less than 48 hours’ notice, the deposit is retained to cover our lost time.

If no one is home when we arrive, or your cat can’t be found within 15 minutes, it’s treated as a missed appointment, and the deposit will be retained.

We do kindly ask clients to avoid repeated short-notice changes or no-shows—this helps us give the best service to everyone.

If we should need to cancel or move your appointment, for any reason, we will give you the option to have your deposit refunded or transferred to a new date.

Preparing for Your Appointment

To make the grooming experience as calm as possible:

Please make sure your cat is indoors and easily accessible before we arrive.

If your cat is shy, give them a calm, secure space to wait.

We allow 15 minutes to locate your cat—after that, the appointment may be cancelled, and the deposit retained.

Where We Groom

For grooming inside your home, we’ll need a room that is:

  • Well-lit and quiet
  • Spacious enough for our grooming table and kit
  • Closeable to prevent escapes

We’ll help suggest a good spot when you book. It’s your responsibility to prepare the space before we arrive.

Coat Condition & Matting

If your cat’s coat is matted or pelted, we may need to clip the fur short, which can reveal or cause:

  • Hidden skin issues (like cuts, sores, or scabs)
  • Minor nicks, irritation, or patchy regrowth
  • Changes in coat texture or colour

Clipping may also affect your cat’s body temperature and exposure to the sun, so please keep them indoors or clothed until the coat grows back. We'll talk through everything and ask you to sign a matted coat disclaimer (below) if needed.

Fleas & Health Conditions

Please let us know about any:

  • Fleas, infections, or contagious illnesses
  • Recent injuries or health concerns
  • Changes in behaviour (anxious, aggressive, etc.)

If fleas are found during a groom, we’ll need to stop the session, and the deposit will be kept to cover equipment sterilisation. Your cat’s safety and comfort are always our top priority.

Temperament & Completing Grooms

Some cats find grooming stressful—and that’s ok. If your cat becomes very anxious or reactive, we may need to:

  • Pause or stop the groom
  • Split the grooming into shorter sessions (there may be an added cost)
  • Suggest sedation under veterinary supervision for future sessions

We’ll only ever stop a groom if it’s in your cat’s best interest. You will be required to pay for the services that have been performed up until that point.

Changes to Style or Finish

We’ll always aim to achieve your requested style, but your cat’s health, safety, and comfort come first. If a style can't be achieved due to behaviour, coat condition, or stress, we’ll adjust as needed.

Photos & Videos

We love sharing our furry clients! We may take pictures or short videos for our website or social media. Your cat may be shown by name, but you’ll never be personally identified without your permission. All the media files are property of Furry Purry Formby.

Should You wish to opt out of photographs or videos of Your pet being used for promotional purposes, please email furrypurryformby@gmail.com

Matted Cat Policy

At Furry Purry Formby, your cat’s comfort, safety, and welfare always come first. While we do our very best to groom your cat to your preferences, heavily matted coats require special consideration. Our approach follows the guidance of the Animal Welfare Act 2006, and we work in line with best practices to minimise stress and discomfort at all times.

Coat Assessments & Ethical Grooming

Before we begin, we’ll assess the condition of the cat's coat and talk through any concerns we have about matting. In some cases, mats can be carefully combed out, but where matting is severe or close to the skin, clipping may be the kindest and safest option.

If we feel your cat is not able to tolerate the process safely, or if matting is too extensive to be removed without causing distress, we may recommend having the mats removed under sedation by a qualified vet. We’re always happy to refer you to a trusted local veterinary practice for an estimate.

Matting Charges

In cases where matting requires additional time, care, or clipper work, an additional matting surcharge will apply, depending on severity, coat type, and temperament. We’ll always discuss this with you at the start of the appointment. Extra time may be needed to complete the groom. You agree to pay all costs for the groom, even if We are unable to fully complete the task.

Understanding the Risks

Matting pulls tightly on the skin, which can cause discomfort, bruising, inflammation, or even open sores underneath. During removal, especially where mats are very tight to the skin, there may be:

Minor nicks, grazes, or irritation

Uneven or patchy regrowth

Changes in hair colour or texture as the coat grows back

Outdoor cats may also be more sensitive to sun exposure following clipping. You also need to be aware that Your cat will have higher UV exposure until the fur regrows. We recommend keeping your cat indoors or using vet-approved sun protection until the coat has regrown.

Shaving Your cat will dramatically alter its appearance, with the hair clipped very close to the skin. You need to be aware that other cats in your household or neighbourhood may not recognise the shaved cat when they return home, and Furry Purry Formby is not responsible for any behavioural problems that result with other cats from carrying out any grooming services.

We do ask that owners inform us of any known health issues or previous concerns related to grooming before we begin. This helps us tailor the experience and make it as stress-free as possible.

Aftercare & Coat Maintenance

After the groom, we’ll offer helpful advice on how to maintain your cat’s coat and prevent future matting. Regular brushing and grooming are key to keeping your cat comfortable and their coat healthy.

Before going ahead with a de-mat service, we ask that you sign  the form below to agree that you have understood the conditions and potential risks.
